For those of you who disagree with that previous statement, let me politely contradict you. No matter who you are, how old you are, or what your level of self-confidence is, you do not need someone else to rely on for your happiness. Happiness comes from within and yes if you find someone who helps bring that happiness out, that is amazing and you are lucky. But if you are like the majority of people who have not yet found that person (single ladies ova here) do not feel sad or depressed or think that something is wrong with you. You are an unique and beautiful human being who belongs with someone and one day you will find someone. So if that person has not been found yet, do not worry! You can still go to Winter Formal (or do anything else that stereotypically says that you need a mate to do). So now that you have (hopefully) realized that this post could become useful to you, let us begin.
For the first look, let's throw it back to the gothic days ok? This look could come across a bit gothic or "vamp-ish" at first but with the proper accessories, it can come out elegant and professional. Miranda modeled this look for me and considering she has extremely long legs, this dress is perfect for her. The dress, from Free People, is a green/grey skin tight dress with a cutout shoulder/back and a neck. Now this neck part is what seems to turn off many people but in my opinion it is the perfect way to show off a lengthy/elegant neck. I paired the look with grey platform shoes from Steve Madden, along with some long long long dangle-y earring that add extra length to the neck. The black cutouts in the dress add curves to the body so this dress would also work well for someone who would want to create the illusion of wide hips.
The next look is going to veer out of the gothic age and zoom into the era of urban/hipster land. This look isn't actually a dress but instead a matching combination of a skirt and top (but if worn close enough together looks like a dress). Calyssa, who has the hair of a goddess, modeled this look because it just looked to good on her for her not to. The little matching ensemble was purchased from Forever 21, for a cheap price of $24! If that's not considered a steal than I don't know what is. The shirt of this duo has already been shown in a piece but I decided to include the entirety of it in this post to show you all that is could be worn for a fancier occasion. I added my favorite pair of heels from BCBG and considering the outfit is pretty busy (pattern wise) I added a pair of short dangle-y earring that added just an extra touch of glamour. Her hair was pulled back and completed this urban take on a traditional dance dress.
For the final look, we go back to the vintage '60s age of long dresses and bright colors. For this look, we took a bright orange (no it isn't red) dress from Urban Outfitter's, and basically let the dress do the talking. This dress has a cutout back, a bright neon color, as well as having the length of a ballgown. Did I mention that it's skin tight? Considering this dress is so powerful by itself, all that was added was a pair of sky-high heels from Charlotte Russe and a basic silver necklace. This dress is so strong and independent (basically Beyoncé in dress form) that all it really needs is a nice pair of shoes, a little touch of lipstick, and voila!
xoxo, Paloma
