The Sisterhood of the "Fancy" Pants

Happy Tuesday, or as happy of a Tuesday as you can have, and hello again. It has finally dawned upon me that it is in fact January, and that those god-forbidden days of cramming for finals are finally upon me. With the dreary outlook on life it is incredibly hard to find the willpower to even get out of bed each morning, let alone be able to muster any effort for an outfit. But along with the doom days in January, comes the excitement of the new year (and yes, in case you have forgotten it is 2014). With the new year comes a new you, and no matter how cliché it sounds, it can be true. And whether your New Year's resolution was to get that lovely 4.0 we all want, or to go to Coachella (nochella for me), it is still something new and exciting that you are planning on doing or achieving. Now considering it is the new year, and it is full of new challenges and achievements, what better way to achieve something than focusing on a basic wardrobe piece that will never go out of style? Better yet, what is better than taking that lovely basic piece and revamping it (much like we hope to do with our lives each new year)? Now, lovely public, I'd like you to meet the basic item in desperate need of revamping: denim jeans.
Denim jeans are an essential part of everyday life and have been for quite sometime. Whether you are the king or queen of cuffed jeans, or the prince or princess of I-can't-breathe-because-my-jeans-are-so-skinny skinny jeans, there is always something more to achieve when it comes to jeans. So with that spirit, today's post is allowing you to experiment in the "fancy" jeans. And no I don't mean expensive jeans worn by the Kardashians, but instead jeans that can be worn for formal occasions. And yes, while many elders will condemn the use of jeans for formal occasions, it can be done. Now I'm not saying that I haven't heard the phrase "Paloma you can wear whatever you want as long as it isn't a pair of jeans" because in reality I've heard it more times than I can count, but I am saying there is a way to rock your favorite jeans even in the classiest of times.
Example A: The lovely wide-legged jeans purchased for $10. Now you probably wouldn't think that these jeans could be worn for any sort of classy or fancy purpose, but I am about to prove you wrong. Now let's take these jeans and let us add a little crop t-shirt. Again, not very fancy right? Well just you wait. Let's go back to this figurative outfit, and add a little more pazazz. A floral blazer from Forever 21 and some extremely high heels (a necessity for me because the jeans are a good five inches longer than my legs) would be a good little extra, so let's add those. And do not forget, the outfit is not complete without makeup, so a little (or a lot) or black eyeliner and mascara (no boys, it is not called eyelash makeup) is necessary, along with some extremely pink cheeks and a coy smile. Audience what do you think? Fancy enough for a fancy lunch? Well besides from the fact that maybe a crop top might not be your best bet, I would have to think it is in fact fancy enough.
Luckily for you...this is the outfit! Yes I know you are all so excited that I actually put this outfit on, I can feel your happiness radiating through my computer.
Now don't worry, I know what you are all thinking. So in answer of all your questions, this is the first of two segments on how to dress up a pair of ordinary jeans. Be prepared for Saturday's segment and I promise (well I can just hope) that you will enjoy these little segments of Dressy Jeans.
xoxo, Paloma
Oh and for all of you who cannot read the shirt "Ain't Laurent without Yves". And yes I realize how perfect it is.
